
Furukawa Electric consolidates itself as a partner of complete telco solutions, unifying its commercial brands under the name Furukawa Solutions
During the Furukawa Summit 2022 the company presented the new brand positioning with which it will be known in its various markets, in addition to launching a new website and recognizing the industry highlights for innovation at the Furukawa Electric Awards.
Furukawa Electric, a leading company in technologies for communications network infrastructure, held its Furukawa Summit 2022 annual meeting on September 25, 26 and 27 in Brazil. The meeting brought together different operators from the telecommunications and utilities sector, internet service providers (ISPs), IT professionals and business partners from various countries and continents, who had the opportunity to learn about the main innovations and trends in technology of the segments where the company operates.
Likewise, two important announcements were made for the company, one of them is the launch of EYON Platform, which helps to reduce the defect detection time, directing the maintenance teams assertively. And mainly, the launch of the new brand positioning which is now Furukawa Solutions.
According to Foad Shaikhzadeh, president of Furukawa Electric LatAM, Charman of OFS and Senior Vice President of the Furukawa Electric group, the unification of brands into one will allow meeting the new challenges in the business: “The company has been showing good results in Latin America in recent years. Sales increased by 35% at the end of the fiscal year in March 2022, so we see this new link between all the companies with great expectations to enhance the company activities globally”

This recognition that the brand makes to its partners had 62 registered projects on this occasion, 37 from Brazil and 25 from other countries. “The objective of the Furukawa Electric Awards is to highlight and recognize cases of innovation involving the use of Furukawa products, solutions and technology”, explains Luiz Henrique Zimmermman, member of the organizing committee of the awards. “In these projects, the innovations imply a modification of old ways of working towards new applications of concepts and products with the aim of achieving modernization”, he added.
The award categories were as follows:
- Data Center
The winner was Sanepar (Brazil), a company from Paraná, and the integrator was Zeittec, a connectivity solutions company.
- Enterprise
Two winners were considered in this category. In first place, Ciudad Militar AIFA (Mexico), a civil airport operated by the military, with its project integrated by the Mexican High Business Communication company. And the second winner was Transportes Bertolini (Brazil), with its Balsa Açaí project with its integrator MCM Tecnología.
- Hospitality / Health
The winners were Hotel Nikko (Thailand) with its integrator KDDI CO., LTD and Tauá Hotel e Convention (Brazil) which was awarded with Primedata integrator.
- IoT for industries
In this category the winner was Aucatek SRL (Argentina) with its project within the chemical industry. Fibrasil Infraestructura y Red Óptica (Brazil) was also awarded with the case of active IoT monitoring of FTTH networks.
- Telecom
The winners were Technet (Colombia), with its video on demand optimization case, and Cirion (Brazil) with its Rollable Ribbon-type Ultra-high-density cabling.
- Smart Cities
In this last category, the winners are the Municipality of Retiro (Colombia) with its integrator Profitel SAS, and the case of Piauí Conectado that belongs to GlobalTask (Brazil).
In the case of the Argentine winner, Aucatek SRL, it is the first time that the implementation of the Laserway Industrial solution has been carried out for the company Lanxess, which belongs to the chemical industry. “The company needed to generate a method to control the productivity of the presses that manufacture tires, but the distances were very long, and we had to consider electromagnetic interference," says Diego Martini, CEO of Aucatek. “The implementation of Laserway allowed our client to have more control of the data produced by the machinery, perform predictive analysis and increase the efficiency of the productive activity"
As for the case of Colombia, one of the winners was in the Smart Cities category. The Retiro Municipality of Colombia with Profitel SAS, the integrator that accompanied the entire project, represents an exemplary case when it comes to optimizing the work of officials. With the aim of accelerating response times and making manual processes more efficient, the Laserway - GPON solution was installed, which allowed a differential in operations within the municipality. On the other hand, the second Colombian winner was in the Telecommunications category. The Technet company was awarded for its video on demand optimization project using the DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) standard.
